I got the Craftsman 26” 6-Drawer Quiet Glide Tool Chest yesterday and was pretty much banking that it would be a great item because Craftsman supposedly makes great tools. Well, to my surprise, the tool chest lasted about 1 hour. I bought liner, cut it to fit in the drawers, and neatly lined every drawer. I then neatly put in all my tools leaving the bottom drawer for all my hammers (because the bottom drawer is taller and can fit bigger tools). So I put in the last hammer and close the drawer. I then start opening and closing all the drawers to test out the “quiet glide” drawers with weight in them. I must admit that they work pretty well. I get to the bottom drawer and open it up. Keep in mind that the bottom drawer has the most weight in it (about 40 pounds). It glided open really smoothly! So smooth that it kept going! The drawer ripped right out of the chest. I was pretty dumbfounded at this point.

After a little investigating, I noticed that the rails all looked the same accept the left side of the drawer that broke. Some genius installed the retainer backwards on that drawer (it was permanently riveted on so I could not fix it). They must have known that it was installed backwards because they had to slide the rail on and would have noticed that it did not lock. Anyway, I’m sure the chest would work ok if it was correctly assembled BUT I will not be getting another one based on principal. It was a pain in the you know what getting that thing around due to it’s weight and size. I would possibly get the ball bearing drawer instead but that too has to be assembled correctly in order to work. Craftsman left a bad taste in my mouth after this one!
